THURMOND LAKE SAIL & POWER SQUADRON Public Boating Courses |
USPS has one course they make available to squadrons for teaching boating safety to the public. Our squadron teaches the shorter course. This course requires five sessions, usually taught one session a week. Boating safety is very important to United States Power Squadrons and to our squadron. We teach a minimum of two courses a year to the communities of Abbeville and McCormick in South Carolina and Lincolnton in Georgia. These are usually taught during the spring and fall of the year. To become a member of USPS and our squadron, one of the requirements is to have passed a qualified course such as USPS Boating Course.
The course teaches the basics of safe boating including instruction on rules of the road, boat handling in normal and adverse conditions, required and recommended equipment, federal and state boating regulations, basic knots and hitches, and many other valuable topics. More than 3 million people have completed a USPS Squadron Boating course.
